Troott — Social Audio Platform
Introduction
Troott is a social audio platform that connects gospel ministers with listeners worldwide. The web platform expands the mobile app experience, enabling ministers to upload, organise, and distribute their teachings at scale — while giving listeners a seamless discovery and streaming experience.
My Role
I designed and built the Troott web platform from the ground up, leading both the product strategy and technical implementation. My responsibilities spanned UX design, frontend architecture with Next.js, and backend API design for the content management and streaming systems.
Design Process
- Competitive analysis of existing podcast and sermon platforms
- User research with ministers and frequent listeners
- Design system creation — typography, colour, spacing, and component library
- Responsive layout design for desktop and mobile web
- Next.js frontend implementation with SSR and edge caching
- API integration for audio upload, transcoding, and streaming
Output
Outcome
The web platform significantly extended Troott's reach beyond mobile, enabling ministers without smartphones to manage their content from a browser. Listener engagement increased and the platform now serves thousands of monthly active users across multiple countries.
